West Point is a strange place to eat. You’ve got cadets marching past castle walls, and then you’ve got a lamb curry so good you’ll forget the Hudson is right there.
I’ve eaten a flawless club sandwich above the river and watched a steak arrive undercooked at a cute spot that couldn’t get its menus straight. The beer list at Draught Industries is the best around, and the ribeye at MacArthur’s will justify the drive alone.
Here’s where to eat when you’re not busy saluting.

Historic castle-like dining atmosphere
Hudson River balcony views
Rich lobster bisque and ribeye
Warm, attentive longtime staff
Generous portions, fair value
MacArthur's Riverview looks like a castle. That is not an accident. The bones here are the real draw. Dungeons and all, except the dungeon is for aging wine. I started with the rich lobster bisque. Good call. The ribeye followed. Also a good call. My waiter had been there for years. He knew the menu, the view, and when to disappear. The balcony hangs over the Hudson. You can watch the water while you work through your steak. Portions are serious. The bill is a relief. Not cheap, but fair for this view. I did not want to leave. So I ordered another coffee and stayed.

Getting into West Point is an exercise in patience. The parking lot is small. Your ID is checked. The reward is the dining room. The view is the entire point. You are up in the mountains looking at history. The food is solid. It is a study spot if you can focus. The quiet is thick. The service was polite and quick. You feel lucky to be here. This is not a place you just stumble into. It is an occasion. I got the club sandwich. It was a good club sandwich. I spent most of my time gawking out the window. That is the right way to spend a lunch.

I went to The Bird & Bottle Inn for a wedding. Everything ran on time. That is rare. The staff moved us through the night with calm hands. The food was delicious. They handled my friend's allergy without blinking an eye. My room was spotless and the bed was comfortable. I wish I stayed longer. The bar impressed me with a sharp craft cocktail. The beer list was respectable too. The wedding was at the inn. It was flawless. I am almost out of words here. They made the whole affair look easy. I will be back for a drink at the very least.

Cute indoor ambiance
Good pre-hike fuel
Slow, uneven service
Undercooked food, mismatched menus
The Foundry Rose is a mixed bag. We got a table fast. The dining room is cute. Then we waited. And waited. Our drinks took too long. The food came out wrong. My friend's steak was undercooked. We also noticed our menus showed different prices. Awkward. The service was friendly. Just absent. Not my favorite combination. The food, when it was right, was decent. It will fuel a hike. I would not go out of my way. It is not a place I will rush back to. Maybe it was an off night. I left feeling let down.

I walked into Tara for an early Friday lunch. It was calm and clean. The owner, Tara, greeted me like a regular. I ordered a lamb curry. She brought out the naan. It was hot. The lamb was tender. The flavors were deep. I did not feel greasy afterward. That is rare with takeout. The portions were generous. I had enough for the next day. Yes, it costs a little more than the usual joint. It is worth it. The ingredients taste fresh. The service was personal. I will definitely be back to try the biryani next time.

Fire pits and a view of the river. I had a drink at 5 pm just to watch the light change. It was worth it. The location is walkable to the base. It is clean and convenient. This is a solid pick for a getaway. The scale feels historic. I slept great. I would come back just for the late afternoon view. No complaints.

Blu Pointe does Mother's Day right. My table was ready. The river was calm. I ordered the brunch. It was outstanding. My server was a guy named Malik. He was exceptional. Attentive without being nosy. I had the seafood. It was cooked perfectly. The whole meal felt special. The drinks, however, were hit or miss. My first cocktail was great. The second was weak. Stick to the food and you are safe. The view helps. The crowds were there. I get it. This is a special occasion spot. I will come back for the view and the food, but I will order wine.

The room had a comfortable bed. I was happy. Debra made us drinks later. They were artfully done. Not too sweet. She talked to us for a bit. The staff was warm all around. | Train-side location is cool |
Helpful staff for choices
Try the signature burgers
Expect inconsistent service quality
Fries often arrive overcooked
Cold Spring Depot is right on the tracks. The train-side tables are the reason to come. I sat inside and could see the rails. Fun. The staff are fine if they are around. My server was nice but someone else took my order. The burgers are the signature. They were juicy and big. Good call. The fries were a letdown. Overcooked and dry. The inconsistency showed again. I will be honest; service was a coin flip. It could be a great time or a frustrating one. If you are not in a rush, it is fine. Just keep your expectations low on the sides.

The Towne Crier is a drive. Do it anyway. The parking is fine. The venue is small. My server was a guy named Phil. He was excellent. He knew when to check in and when to disappear. The food is better than it has any right to be for a music hall. I ordered wrong. I saw the plate next to me and ordered what they had. It was fresh. The music was loud, the crowd was happy. It is a perfect dinner-and-show spot. Go for the music. Stay for the food. Just go.
